Harmony's Song is a great way to start the series. Although you don't need to read it before book one, it's not a bad way to start. I love how it feels like you're not just reading a book but stepping through a portal into Daniel's world. Even if you don't plan on reading the series and are looking for a quick epic read, you'll want to grab this.
